Nurture Nature at Sienna Plantation Earth Day Celebration April 8
Eco-warriors young and old will be seeing green Saturday, April 8, as Sienna Plantation celebrates the beauty of Mother Earth with a day of fun and festive activities.
The Earth Day Celebration takes place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Train Depot/Amphitheater area, 9600 Scanlan Trace, immediately adjacent to Waters Lake. Join in a tree-planting ceremony, engage in activities presented by the Houston Museum of Science, plant seeds and color a giant mural. Live acoustic music will be provided by Mystery Loves Company.
“Gator Chris,” Texas reptile specialists All God’s Creatures and Sweetie Pie’s petting zoo will delight family members of all ages with a variety of interesting, unique and cuddly animals. Farmers market favorite Plant It Forward will have farm-fresh produce for sale and Simple Recycling will be on hand with its textile recycling truck. Food will be available for purchase.
Young poets ages 5 to 15 can participate in a poetry contest. Email poetry contest entries to Smita Parikh at firstname.lastname@example.org or drop them off at the poetry table at the Train Depot during the event. The winning poem will be published in the May issue of the Sienna Plantation resident newsletter.
This year’s Earth Day Celebration is one of many events open to the public during Houston’s Largest Home Tour. The tour, sponsored by Sienna Plantation developer, Johnson Development Corp., encourages the public to visit hundreds of homes, including 150 models in 14 Johnson communities throughout April.
Twenty-one models in Sienna Plantation will be open for touring. Several other Sienna events also will be open to the public, including the community’s Canine Carnival festival of fur and Kickin’ Crawfish Picnic on April 22 and the heart-pounding action of the Texas Sienna 10 race on April 29.
